Lee Rainie gave a keynote address about the new civic and political landscape to a summit sponsored by the Pew Voter Information Project for state election officials and technology executives who help them. He discussed the changing civic and media environment created by the rise of broadband, social networking sites, and mobile connectivity. He especially highlighted trends in mobile apps and the general smartphone environment that are being embraced in the commercial world that might be useful for election officials to understand.
