Some 12% of Internet users say a favorite Web site of theirs has gone out of business. But most have found other sites that provide the same information or service. Similarly, 17% of Internet users have been asked to pay for access to a Web site or content that used to be free. But half have found a free alternative. A small portion pay for the service and the rest decide to stop getting that content from an online source. Most believe the online shakeout has been a benefit to the Internet.
