'"Women have almost caught up with men online, according to a new study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

The percentage of women online is slightly less than that of men -- 68 percent vs. 66 percent. Because women outnumber men in the U.S. population, however, more women are online.

While men like to check news, weather and sports online, women are more likely to go online for e-mail, "and they use it in a richer and more engaging way," said the study by Deborah Fallows."

Many news sites move articles into data bases after a period of time and then offer them for sale, in the process changing the URLs that link to them. Or they require registration. Thus, we provide a link to the front page of the news website and the information necessary to find the story on that site, rather than a direct link to the article.
