'"That curse of the online age, e-mail spam, is getting worse a year after the federal CAN-SPAM law was enacted to stop it. But a new survey finds computer users don't seem to hate it as much as they did a year ago -- perhaps because they're less likely to receive the nasty pornographic messages that offend so many.
The survey released today by the Pew Internet & American Life Project found more are beginning to accept spam as just another nuisance of modern life, like traffic jams.
``We know people like their e-mail,'' said Deborah Fallows, senior research fellow at the Pew Internet Project. ``In a way this is like a way of fighting back: They're just going to go on with their e-mail and deal with it.''
NOTE:Many news sites move articles into data bases after a period of time and then offer them for sale, in the process changing the URLs that link to them. Or they require registration. Thus, we provide a link to the front page of the news website and the information necessary to find the story on that site, rather than a direct link to the article.
