'The music industry's lawsuits against downloaders helped persuade Rob Thompson and Mike Gatti to shun the free file-sharing services on the Internet. Thompson and Gatti, who work together at a Boston ad agency, prefer to buy music at record shops such as Boston's Newbury Comics or through the iTunes service, a legal, online alternative launched by Apple last year.… They're not alone. About 14 percent of Internet users - or more than 17 million adults - no longer download music, says a Pew Internet & American Life Project report to be released today.
