Of the 4 percent of Americans who bought online, the vast majority went to pharmacies based in the United States, meaning the population of online drug importers is even smaller. Most said the site required a prescription and said they had one from their doctor. The online drug buyers tend to live in higher-income households and have six or more years of online experience. "People are going online to get drugs related to a chronic illness, like high blood pressure or arthritis — three-quarters of that small group," said Fox. "One quarter say their last purchase was for some other purpose, such as weight loss or sexual performance." Most said they were satisfied and planned to order online again, and most cited convenience and cost savings as reasons for buying online. Fox said Americans may be cautious now, but they will likely grow more comfortable as friends and neighbors order without trouble.
